This last week, Donovan & I (Jennifer) were given the opportunity to spend 3 nights in Monterey and it was very nice! While we were gone, Kaya got to stay with Grammy & Papa.
While at Grammy & Papa's house, Kaya got to do all sorts of fun stuff. She got to help Papa make cookies, play outside (a lot), use chalk to draw on their driveway, go to the coffee shop with Papa, play with Emma the dog and Molly the cat, and lots more. She had quite a fun time being spoiled and did very well while we were gone. Apparently, Molly (the cat) is no longer afraid of Kaya and Kaya is no longer afraid of her. Here's a picture to prove it! (Just in case you can't tell what's going on, Kaya's swinging Molly's toy in front of her and Molly's getting ready to strike)
Since Kaya's now in her twin bed at home, her toddler bed is at their house. Here's some pictures of her in her PJs getting ready for bed.
And some pictures that Kaya took...
Self Portraits:
A lovely picture of Papa (which I'm sure he's going to love me for sharing ;-) )
And raisins. Apparently they're fascinating...
While Kaya was having fun at Grammy & Papa's house, Donovan & I were having a good time in Monterey. Our wonderful family and friends were kind enough to pay for a delayed honeymoon and it was quite nice to get away with each other. It was nice just to be able to see each other for more than a half hour in a day and even nicer that it was Monterey.
We left on Sunday morning and got there before check in time that afternoon, so went to see Indiana Jones at the movies. :-) Just in case you're wondering, it was very Indiana Jones-y, which we both enjoyed very much. We went to a local pizza place for dinner then settled in for the night. With the room darkening shade, we both slept pretty late on Monday & Tuesday and didn't leave the hotel room until around 11:30.
Monday, we spent the day at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and on Cannery Row. The Aquarium was very interesting and Cannery Row was very nice. We ate dinner at Bubba Gumps and spent some time just sitting on the beach. Donovan had never even stuck his feet in the bay or the ocean so it took a little convincing, but once he did he had a good time.
Tuesday, we ventured out to Fisherman's Wharf and went to the History Museum, then spent the afternoon on the beack and walking around the shops on Lightouse (the street that our hotel was on). We had a very good dinner at a place called International Cuisine (which was recommended by a co-worker) and then brought ice cream back to our room and played some board games for a while before we settled in.
We had a late breakfast on Cannery Row on Wednesday, then left for Sacramento. We made pretty good time and got to my parents' house around 3:00. We had a great time and were very glad to see Kaya when we got back. She seemed totally okay with us being gone for as long as we were, which made being away much easier, but I (of course) still missed her. :-)
Here's some pictures from Monterey. Most of them are from the aquarium shot through glass (or splashed on plastic) with very bad lighting (in other words, very slow shutter speed and not the sharpest of pictures). Soooo.... the pictures aren't the greatest, but they're definitely enough to remember the trip by. :-) (Note: I didn't enhance these pics in any way - the colors are just that cool)

Hey Jen,
Great job on the pictures! Dad and I got the biggest laugh out of his picture you put in. He also did a little groaning. Thanks for a good laugh. I had Kaya pose for her 'bed' pictures. It reminded me of when I did the same thing with you. And you were always happy to oblige me with wonderful and very silly poses, which Kaya was also. It was so good to see her playing with the animals so much. She's doing great. She's such a wonderful kid. I loved going in and looking at her sound asleep before I went to bed. She always looked so cute. Then I would tell her about it the next day. She would guess which pose she was in, then I would tell her what she was doing. She always laughed. What did she think of your pictures, especially the penguins? Love you lots, Mom P.S. In the olden days, when you were growing in my 'uterus' as Kaya so aptly puts it, we rarely knew what sex our babies were, until they arrived. Can you imagine that?
Just so you know, that was my comment, and I'm no longer anonymous. Yeah!
Love you lots,
Mom
Yay! I'm so glad you that you two got away together! What a special baby-moon for you before you are two busy individuals with two kids!
I can't wait to find out what your very stubborn baby is!! Boy or girl? Hmm...
HOw awesome! Glad you got to get away! So glad to hear that Kaya did well too! Love the pictures!!
I suppose it was inevitable that that picture would show up on the INTERNET of all places! Well, I suppose there are worse ones that could have shown up so I'll deal with it. At least your mom got a good laugh out of it.
Those pics from Monterey are very good! I'll look forward to seeing the rest. I'd like to make some prints from some of those!
Good job, and I'm glad you enjoyed the trip!
Love
Dad
So glad that you were able to get away together! Aren't grandparents the best? They actually encourage us to get away so they can watch the kids. Love it!! Your pictures are really great!! I will be waiting for the mystery baby to reveal itself!!
